Course overview

What this course is

A survey course introducing basic design thinking: principles and elements of design and concepts of composition. Expect reading, writing, and lab work, plus the creation and exhibition of original student artwork.

Students work both by hand (sketchbook, ink, cut paper, collage) and digitally (Adobe Creative Cloud), and every project moves through the full design-thinking arc: research, ideation, iteration, production, and presentation. Several assignments conclude with in-class critique, so on-time submission matters — late work can miss the group discussion.

Tech requirement: students provide their own laptop capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud. Students must also keep an active, up-to-date Behance portfolio.
